Pair of Prefabricated Steel Equestrian Buildings in St. Johns, Illinois

Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc., fabricated and supplied this pair of pre-engineered steel equestrian buildings in Johns Island, South Carolina, in late November of 2001.

These days, the (2) rugged, reliable steel buildings together serve as the Mullet Hall Equestrian Center at Johns Island County Park, which undergoes use as a host site for competitive horse shows, exhibitions, festivals, trail riding excursions, trail races and other special events. Nestled amidst South Carolina’s scenic Lowcountry, the facility welcomes groups of all sizes and bills itself one of the Charleston area’s best-kept secrets for equestrian enthusiasts.

The (2) equestrian buildings provide plenty of space for riding, grooming and housing horses, and between them, they feature (98) individual horse stalls. The facility also features bathrooms, ample parking and other amenities that make it ideal for craft shows, tractor shows and its famous “Mullet Haul,” a trail race that welcomes runners dressed up as the famous comedy character, Joe Dirt.

Equestrian Facility Features & Specs

Both pre-engineered metal equestrian buildings are the same size, standing an expansive 80’x220’x12’ once raised. While they’re almost 20 years old and have been through heavy usage and a number of hurricanes, they still maintain their structural integrity and architectural appeal, adding to the beauty of the surrounding equestrian property.

The pair of equestrian buildings boast matching Stone Beige-colored exteriors, while their hardwearing, corrosion-resistant roofs are Dark Green and have 4:12 pitches. Letting natural sunlight in from above are (10) 11’4” skylights, and the buildings also have several accommodations that improve ventilation, among them (5) 10’ ridge vents with 9” throats and 15’ White damper chains. The buildings also have 130-mph wind speed ratings, which keep them compliant with building codes in place in the area while making them more durable with respect to strong storm and hurricane activity.

Economical, Secure Steel Equestrian Buildings

When it comes to strength and durability, it’s tough to top steel, making prefabricated steel buildings an increasingly popular choice among buyers with equestrian interests. Often engineered for use as horse stalls, tack or equipment storage areas, riding arenas and similar equestrian-related applications, steel buildings are easy to erect and equally easy to maintain, leading to low lifelong costs of ownership.

An island belonging to Charleston County, St. Johns is South Carolina’s largest island and the fourth-largest island on the East Coast. Nearby islands include Wadmalaw, Seabrook, Kiawah, Edisto, Folly and James islands.
