Prefabricated Steel Church Building & Lean-To in Montrose, Colorado

When the congregation at Montrose, Colorado’s Grace Community Church needed more space to house their youth services, they tasked Sunward Steel Buildings with creating a space to fit the bill. Sunward Steel stepped up, sending the building kits for this pre-engineered metal church building and lean-to to southwestern Colorado in November 2024.

Engineered to attach to the church’s existing vestibule, the metal youth building spans 4,500 square feet, providing plenty of space for a stage, sound system, seating, bathroom, kitchen area and more. The attached metal lean-to offers another 1,200 square feet of covered open-air space the congregation can use for storage, overflow seating or any number of other uses.

Designed to match the existing church building already onsite, the new metal youth building and lean-to have Polar White exteriors with contrasting Black trim, resulting in a bold, striking aesthetic. The youth building lacks sheeting along its right end wall so it can easily connect to the existing structure, allowing for seamless movement between the main church and the new space.

A high-performance, high R-value insulation system keeps interior temperatures comfortable for use year-round in Montrose, with an R-36 multi-layer White Energy Saver insulation system lining the roof and another R-35 Energy Saver insulation system installed in the walls. As a result, the youth building offers impressive thermal performance, leading to substantial savings on energy bills and additional benefits, like improved sound control and protection against condensation.

There are also gutters and downspouts along the roof, which keep the seasonal snowfall Montrose often receives from collecting on top and potentially compromising integrity.

With its thoughtful design, impressive thermal performance and easy integration with the existing church building, this new metal youth building and lean-to gives Grace Community Church room to grow and can easily accommodate everything from Sunday School services to church special events.
