Prefabricated Steel Agricultural Building & Shade Trellis in Kamuela, Hawaii

Sunward Steel sent a building kit for a pre-engineered steel agricultural building to Kamuela, Hawaii, in September of 2023.

Custom-designed for life on Hawaii’s Big Island, the striking and durable steel building features eye-catching architectural elements that boost curb appeal and hardy steel construction that resists moisture, pests, fire and other hazards. The main part of the building has 1,000 square feet of open interior space great for storing equipment or housing seeds, plants or supplies. A separate T-frame extension required a specialized foundation design and adds another 440 square feet of partially shaded open-air space to the setup that’s ideal for protecting farm equipment, feed or animals from the elements.

The steel agricultural building has an architecturally appealing exterior, with Saddle Tan walls and Koko Brown trim, wainscoting and a matching shade trellis giving the structure a cohesive look and feel. Windows throughout also let natural light inside, improving ambiance while saving the owner money on heating bills during cooler months.

Well-suited for use in coastal and other settings that see high humidity levels or heavy moisture, pre-engineered metal agricultural buildings like this one are easy to design and configure to meet any number of different needs and uses. And with near-endless design possibilities and various options for doors, windows, aesthetic elements and more, these buildings offer the flexibility and adaptability needed to serve not only today’s agricultural needs, but tomorrow’s.

Designed for fast, easy assembly, the main metal agricultural building is 25’x40’x14’ with a modest 1:12 roof pitch, while the standalone T-frame extension is 11’4.5”x40’x11.38”.
