Pair of Pre-Engineered Steel Airplane Hangars in Ennis, Montana

Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc., fabricated two metal airplane hangars for Aerospace Construction, an Ennis, Montana-based construction company, sending the pre-engineered building kits to the small western Montana town in mid-July, 2024.

Designed to house and protect planes and other aircraft from the Montana elements while keeping them ready for use at a moment’s notice, these pre-engineered metal hangars are equal in size, with each providing 3,600 square feet of unobstructed aircraft storage space. Equal parts functional and attractive, the metal hangars have Ash Gray exteriors, complementary Charcoal Gray trim and clean lines, resulting in a professional, contemporary look and feel.

Both buildings are designed for 50’x14’ openings that will house Diamond bi-fold doors, ensuring easy inside access for aircraft, accommodating planes and helicopters with varying wingspans, and each building also has a traditional walk door for seamless entry.

Great for protecting valuable assets from extreme temperatures, heavy snow accumulation, pests and other hazards that could otherwise compromise their performance and integrity, these matching metal hangars are especially useful in Montana. There, variable weather and the remote nature of many businesses and operations make year-round aircraft storage a necessity, rather than a luxury.

Building Specifications

Constructed from rugged, fire- and moisture-resistant 26-gauge HiRib steel panels, these metal aircraft hangars offer the strength and durability life in Montana demands. Each building stands 60’x60’x19’ and has high ceilings, allowing it to house planes or helicopters in various sizes and styles, and each has a corrosion-resistant steel roof with a slight 1:12 pitch offering reliable protection overhead.

Engineered to meet local building regulations and the guidelines set by the 2021 International Building Code, both metal hangars also feature heavy, 63-psf roof snow loads and 115-mph wind speed ratings that boost overall durability.

Home to less than 1,000 full-time residents, the small town of Ennis is part of southwestern Montana’s Madison County. The community sits southeast of the Tobacco Root Mountains, about 52 miles southwest of Bozeman and about a 72-mile drive from Yellowstone National Park.
