Steel Barn & Woodworking Shop in Shepherd, Montana

A homeowner in south-central Montana wanted a safe, all-season space to store tractors and use as a woodshop and ordered this pre-engineered steel agricultural building in May 2024. Designed to match the buyer’s home already on the property, the building has the look and feel of a traditional red barn, but the strength and durability only steel construction can offer.

Spanning 2,223 square feet, the climate-controlled clear-span steel barn has no interior columns or obstructions, maximizing woodworking and storage space for tractors and other farm equipment. High ceilings create additional room for vertical storage, while Rustic Red exterior paint and a complementing Polar White roof and trim package giving the structure a clean, classic look that matches the existing onsite home.

Roof and wall insulation keep the inside of the metal barn comfortable despite Montana’s dramatic temperature swings. The insulation package also keeps farm equipment and other goods stored inside at consistent temperatures, so they remain functional and ready for use as needed.

Unlike traditional barns made of wood, pre-engineered steel barns and farm buildings are inherently low-maintenance and don’t peel, warp or crack over time. Metal farm buildings also hold up against fires, pests, moisture and other hazards that can wreak havoc on traditional barns, making them a smart, economical choice for homeowners looking to add enclosed space to support farm operations.
