The owner of a shop and hunting lodge in New Leipzig, North Dakota, wanted to expand its footprint and ordered this new metal building from Sunward Steel in August 2024.

Engineered to attach to the existing building and custom-designed inside and out to meet the buyer’s needs, the new addition adds another 2,500 square feet of interior space to the property and has a bright, eye-catching exterior and is modern and inviting on the inside. Combining space for vehicles and hunting gear with a large, well-appointed residential area, the building makes for a perfect getaway for hunting trips and hunters looking to get a few days in the field without having to sacrifice the comforts of home.

The inside of the metal shop and hunting lodge has a large kitchen, living area and sleeping quarters, and it also features high, vaulted ceilings and multiple windows that give the inside an open, airy feel. Sliding barn doors and slatted window blinds add architectural interest while serving a practical purpose, while a 56-foot vented ridge trim in the lodge area improves airflow and ventilation throughout.

Cozy, comfortable and well-appointed, the steel building adds significant usable space to the property while giving hunters and outdoor enthusiasts a safe and relaxing place to return to after a great day outside.

Building Specifications

The addition to the hunting lodge stands 50’x50’x12’ when assembled and features a gable roof with a 4:12 pitch that helps rain and snow slide off easily. Inside, it has the following doors and windows:

  • (3) 3’4”x7’2” walk doors
  • (1) 16’x14’ overhead garage door
  • (2) 9’x10’ overhead garage doors
  • (6) 3’x2’ windows

On the outside, white exterior paint and a contrasting black roof and trim package create curb appeal and give the metal building a traditional “barn” aesthetic. Engineered for North Dakota’s dramatic temperature swings and heavy seasonal snowfall, the metal hunting lodge addition also features a 75-psf snow load and a 115-mph wind rating.

Located within about 150 miles of Sunward Steel’s manufacturing facilities in Jamestown, New Leipzig is part of Grant County in the southern part of the state. The small, rural community is home to a few hundred residents and is about an 83-mile drive from Bismarck, the North Dakota state capital.
