Pre-Engineered Steel Agricultural Building in Saucier, MS, Mississippi

Sunward Steel sent this prefabricated steel building to Saucier, Mississippi, in October 2022, to house the agricultural operations of a state-run medical cannabis cultivation facility.

Durable, practical and insulated, the structure creates an ideal environment for controlled cultivation. The metal grow house has 6” of fiberglass insulation in its roof and another 4” in its walls, with the fiberglass blankets featuring rugged WMP-VR facing on the interior-facing side to protect them against moisture and damage. The insulation package improves energy efficiency and allows growers to maintain internal temperatures ideal for plant growth.

On the outside, the metal agricultural building has a Polar White roof and an Ash Gray exterior with Charcoal Gray trim, giving it a modern, professional look and feel while helping it blend well with its surroundings. It also has gutters and downspouts along the roofline to simplify drainage given the area’s heavy annual rainfall.

A high wind speed rating is another important inclusion made with respect for Saucier’s propensity for hurricanes, tornadoes and severe storms. Custom-built to support medical cannabis cultivation, this building serves as a safe, dry place to grow and tend to plants year-round.

Building Specifications

The components for this steel grow house arrived at the build site already partially assembled, speeding up construction on the 40’x120’x14’ structure. The building boasts a clear span design that eliminates the need for interior supports or trusses, maximizing space for plants.

A corrosion-resistant steel roof with a slight 2:12 pitch sits overhead, offering reliable protection from the Mississippi elements, and two walk doors; one 3’4”x7’2” and one 6’4”x7’2”, offer easy access for staff and equipment. A 5-psf roof snow load and a 158-mph wind speed rating keep the structure stable and secure despite the area’s variable climate, enhancing safety and structural integrity even in harsh weather.

A small community in southern Mississippi, Saucier spans about 7 square miles and sits 5 miles south of McHenry and about 25 miles northwest of Biloxi.
