Prefabricated Steel Barndominium in Westmoreland, Kansas

A resident of Westmoreland, Kansas, wanted a pre-engineered metal building to serve double-duty as a home and shop and ordered this steel barndominium and lean-to from Sunward Steel in September 2024.

Spacious, modern and carefully customized to the owner’s specifications, the metal barndominium offers 2,223 square feet of interior space plus another 300 square feet of covered porch space under the attached steel lean-to and awning. The lean-to also Modern and inviting, the barndominium has a large shop area in addition to the main living quarters, with this open section of the building providing plenty of additional space for hobbies, automotive efforts and a large children’s play area.

Insulated and climate-controlled, the steel home has an R-30 White multi-layer Energy Saver insulation system in the roof, with 6” of R-19 insulation installed in the cavity and another 3.5” of R-11 insulation overlaid on top. The wall insulation features VRR+ facing, which protects the fiberglass blankets from damage while improving the look of the building from the inside.

Several large windows allow natural light in while adding architectural interest to the outside of the metal home. Saddle Tan exterior paint with a complementing Hunter Green roof and trim package create additional curb appeal while blending well with the barndominium’s natural surroundings.

Faster to assemble and easier to maintain than most residential construction methods, pre-engineered metal homes and barndominiums continue to grow in popularity as more people work from home and seek out spaces that combine comfortable living quarters with other functional areas.
