Pre-Engineered Steel Equestrian Complex in Franktown, Colorado
Sunward Steel manufactured the buildings for this expansive equestrian property in Franktown, Colorado, sending the building kits to the north-central Colorado community in late July of 2025.
The project is a work in progress and will include close to 20,000 square feet of usable space spread across a barn, riding arena, stables, a hay shed and a connecting building when complete. All equestrian buildings on the property feature matching, eye-catching facades and traditional “barn” aesthetics, combining the functionality and versatility of steel construction with the visual appeal of a classic farm building.
All included structures are designed to maximize space, comfort and enjoyment for horses and riders. A shop space features an interior mezzanine, creating additional square footage ideal for storing hay, feed or tack, and an exposed White liner panel underneath the mezzanine protects the shop’s interior walls, giving the inside a clean, polished look. The stable building has an open-air metal lean-to and offers reliable protection for horses, keeping them safe, warm and protected from the Colorado elements. It also boasts a ceiling liner, which improves interior aesthetics and helps keep inside temperatures comfortable and consistent throughout the year.
Each metal horse building will have Charcoal Gray walls and a Black roof and trim. Each will also feature 4’ of Black wainscoting along all sides, resulting in nice curb appeal. Numerous door and window openings in a variety of sizes allow horses and riders to move in and out with ease, and a fully enclosed connector building connects the riding arena and stables, allowing for easy transitions between the two, regardless of outside conditions.
A top choice among those seeking equestrian buildings due to their durability, fire resistance and optional clear span designs, pre-engineered steel horse buildings hold their own in the face of heavy use and foot traffic, needing very little from the owner in terms of ongoing maintenance. Metal equestrian buildings have also come a long way over the years in terms of style and visual appeal, going beyond the standard “box” design to accommodate specialized layouts and custom interior and exterior elements and details.
