Prefabricated Steel Barndominium in Florence, Arizona

Sunward Steel designed and engineered this impressive pre-engineered steel barndominium, sending the building components for the project to Florence, Arizona, in June of 2018.

An automotive enthusiast’s dream home, the barndominium consists of four smaller structures fused together and combines living space, garage space and a home office area for the homeowner’s business, P&B Transportation, Inc. The three-bed, two-and-a-half bath home includes a spacious, clear-span shop for race cars, a garage area for the owner’s classic car collection, and a mezzanine over the top of the garage that has additional living space for guests or employees.

Saddle Tan walls and a Polar White roof and trim package give the building the look of a traditional home, rather than a steel box. Of the four buildings used to create the barndominium, two are enclosed, while the remaining two are roof-only structures that provide covered, open-air work or storage space.

The enclosed buildings, which include the residential area and the garage, have high ceilings and insulation packages, with 9.5” of fiberglass insulation lining the roof and 6” of fiberglass insulation installed in the walls. Held in place by double-faced tape and sticky tabs that create continuous, airtight seams, the insulation blankets also have heavy-duty WMP-VR facing on the inside, improving the look of the barndominium from the inside while protecting the insulation from moisture and tears.

Modern, multifunctional and fully customized to meet the homeowner’s needs, this metal barndominium serves as a single, central place to live, conduct business and store personal and commercial vehicles while keeping them safe, protected and out of the intense Arizona sunlight.
