Equestrian Arena in Eau Claire, Wisconsin
Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc., was pleased to manufacture and supply this pre-engineered steel building for a buyer in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in March of 2003.
Offering ample curb appeal, the attractive and durable metal building now functions as an indoor equestrian arena on the grounds of Legacy Farm, a scenic, 75-acre waterfront property situated along the shores of Lake Altoona. The farm, which has since become part of a nonprofit operation, hosts numerous community outreach programs throughout the year, offering a wide range of equestrian and aquatic activities, including riding lessons, therapeutic riding opportunities, nursing home activities, gardening efforts, and more.
An Affordable Alternative to Steel Construction
When it comes to protecting horses from cold temperatures and extreme weather conditions, nothing tops galvanized steel, and prefabricated steel riding arenas and horse barns such as this one provide safe, affordable places to shelter or ride horses. In addition to eliminating the need for repainting, residing and the like, steel horse barns and equestrian arenas are easier to clean than most alternatives, which is good for aesthetics as well as the health of the animals.
This particular prefabricated metal equestrian arena joins several other structures on the Legacy Farm property, which now serves as the prototype for Legacy Camps, an organization that encourages other property owners to adopt similar outreach programs to enrich their communities. Part of the Eau Claire – Menomonie Combined Statistical Area, the city of Eau Claire has land in Chippewa and Eau Claire counties. The community sits about 14 miles outside Chippewa Falls and about 90 miles east of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

Building Specifications
Rugged, versatile, and climate-controlled, the steel horse arena offers unrivaled strength and durability, and following an easy erection process, it stands 80’x147’x14’ in size. A broad, clear-span design free from interior obstructions enhances viewing opportunities and gives equestrians plenty of room to ride, while a striking, Royal Red exterior and a Dark Green roof with a 3:12 pitch draw the eye from the road.
Because of the building code requirements currently in place in the region and the Eau Claire area’s propensity for heavy seasonal snowfall, a 42-psf snow load and a 90-mph wind speed rating serve as additional metal arena customizations. Low-maintenance and highly sustainable, the steel arena requires only minimal upkeep in order to maintain its appeal and functionality through the years, making it an ideal construction option for busy property owners.
