Steel Garage & Carport in Durango, Colorado

Erected in Durango, Colorado, in September 2020, this Sunward Steel metal building is now a garage, storage building and carport.

Insulated and engineered for Durango’s high-altitude location and heavy winter snowfall, the building has a high snow load and a single-slope roof designed to help snow slide off the back. Its open, clear-span garage and storage area houses the owner’s cars, trucks and boats, and the covered, open-air carport provides overhead protection for vehicles and boats as well as RVs and utility trailers.

Building Specifications

Featuring Charcoal Gray paint and Polar White trim, the metal shop, garage and carport is 35’x52’x14’/19.83’. It has (3) doors; (1) 3070 walk door and (2) 12’x14’ overhead doors large enough to move cars and boats in and out.

The owner also ordered an insulation package for the building to install during construction. The roof and walls each contain 6” of fiberglass steel building insulation held in place by tabs, patch tape and double-faced tape. White WMP-VRR polypropylene facing lines the interior-facing side of the insulation blankets, giving the inside of the garage a clean, modern look. The facing also boosts the thermal performance of the insulation, leading to lower power bills and a more comfortable, regulated inside temperature.

Fabricated to meet or exceed the building codes in place in Durango, the steel garage has a high, 58-psf roof snow load and a wind load of 115 mph.
