Prefabricated Metal Gymnasium Building in Ocean Township, New Jersey

Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc., was the manufacturer and supplier of this pre-engineered gymnasium building in New Jersey, in early February of 2004.

Ever since, it has undergone use as the Ocean Township Municipal Gymnasium, a valued community resource located directly across from the Township of Ocean Intermediate School. The gym contains basketball and volleyball courts for community use, and it also hosts a number of other recreational events and opportunities, including senior fitness classes, Pilates classes, and summer camps, among others. The building is also available to area nonprofits looking to use it for volleyball matches, basketball games or similar recreational efforts, and there is also outdoor recreational space surrounding the large indoor gymnasium.

Affordable, Easy-to-Raise Athletic Buildings

Manufactured on U.S. soil, Sunward Steel’s metal buildings often undergo use as indoor basketball and tennis courts, gymnastics and dance centers, and equestrian arenas, among other common uses. Due to their prefabricated nature, they are typically much faster and cheaper to raise than alternative construction options, and they also maintain their strength, beauty, and functionality over time despite harsh weather and heavy use.

Ocean Township is a small community located in east-central Monmouth County. The township contains three smaller communities; Wanamassa, Oakhurst, and Wayside.

Building Specifications

Rugged, spacious, and exceedingly durable, Ocean Township’s municipal gymnasium building stands an expansive 90’x180’x20’ in size. It features a clear span that eliminates interior columns and supports, providing ample space for recreation, and it also has a high overhead clearance that allows for the installation of basketball hoops and similar athletic equipment.

Comprised of premium-quality steel components, the building offers unmatched structural integrity, and its roof is comprised of heavy-duty Galvalume metal panels and has a mild 3:12 pitch. The steel gym also boasts a number of weather-related customizations and enhancements, among them a large eave gutter along two sides and 400 linear feet of 5” downspouts spanning 220 locations.

The gutters and downspouts divert water away from the gym’s roof and foundation, preventing corrosion, mold growth, and similar sources of potential damage. Other climate-related accommodations that keep the steel gym compliant with applicable building code requirements in place in Ocean Township include a 21-psf snow load and a 110-mph wind speed rating.
