Agricultural Building in Micanopy, Florida
Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc., was proud to fabricate and supply this pre-engineered metal building on behalf of a client in Micanopy, Florida, in March of 2010.
These days, the durable, affordable steel building serves agricultural purposes on the grounds of the Micanopy Zoological Preserve, a private, 600-acre Central Florida farm and preserve that is home to a broad range of non-native and endangered animal species. Located between Ocala, Gainesville and Williston, Florida, the property features a custom, six-bedroom home, a 12-stall horse barn, an additional barn/maintenance building and a fenced perimeter with additional paddocks for animals.
Preserving & Protecting Rare & Endangered Animals
Nowadays, the Micanopy Zoological Preserve is home to more than 20 different rare and endangered animal species, and this prefabricated steel agricultural building plays an important role in housing and providing for them. Great for housing livestock, storing feed and riding and grooming horses, among other common uses, steel farm buildings undergo easy customization to accommodate virtually any climate, and they are typically cheaper and faster to raise than conventional wood buildings.
A small, sparsely populated community set within Alachua County, the town of Micanopy covers just over one square mile. The community sits just south of Gainesville and roughly 27 miles north of Ocala.

Comprised of premium-grade steel components, the steel agricultural building offers unmatched strength and durability and once fully erect, it stands 90’x200’x14’ in size. Overhead, a corrosion-resistant Galvalume metal roof with White trim protects animals and building users from Florida’s sometimes-heavy rainfall, and the building also features open sidewalls and open cable bracing.
In consideration of the strong storm and occasional hurricane activity seen throughout the region as well as the building code requirements in place at the build site, a 110-mph wind speed rating serves as an additional farm building customization. Long-lasting and low maintenance, the steel farm building serves as a key component of the property, giving owners a safe, secure and year-round space to house animals or store agricultural equipment, animal feed and related supplies.
