Steel Airplane Hangar in Galliano, Louisiana
Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc., manufactured and provided this pre-engineered steel building for a customer in Galliano, Louisiana, in 2003.
The building functions as an airplane hangar on the grounds of the South Lafourche Airport, which is part of the larger Greater Lafourche Port Commission. The GLPC plays a critical role in regional trade and commerce, and it helps facilitate the economic growth of the communities it serves. The airport has a 6,500-foot runway that can accommodate aircraft ranging from small, private planes to large commercial jets, and it also boasts another 1,200 acres of industrial park property that offers plenty of space for future development.
Steel Hangar Specifications
Designed with supreme strength and structural integrity in mind, the metal airplane hangar features galvanized steel framing and top-quality steel construction, boasting a finished size of 106’x106’x20. The hangar’s broad, unobstructed clear-span design leaves ample room for aircraft with wide wingspans, while a durable Galvalume roof with Dark Green trim and a 1:12 pitch sits overhead, offering protection from the elements.
The Dark Green roof nicely complements the hangar’s existing, Stone Beige exterior, and the metal aviation building also boasts (18) framed openings. Included are (2) 3070 openings enclosing (2) 3070 commercial walk door systems with lever locks and (16) 11’4” skylights that allow natural sunlight to enter the space.
Additional features and customizations include (4) 4’ Galvalume ridge vents, which allow damp air to escape through the top of the building, prolonging the life of the hangar, and several additional enhancements added in consideration of local building code requirements and climate patterns. Such accommodations include a 110-mph wind speed rating and a 1-pound snow load.
