Prefabricated Steel Aircraft Hangars in Kalispell, Montana

Sunward Steel Buildings, Inc., supplied these (2) prefabricated steel hangars in Kalispell, Montana, in February and March of 2008.

The steel buildings function as aircraft hangars on the grounds of the Glacier Jet Center, a private airport that operates within Glacier Park International Airport. Located just 35 minutes outside scenic, expansive Glacier National Park, the steel jet center offers aircraft parking, flight training, and aircraft maintenance services, among other amenities, and it also has an onsite concierge who can direct aviation enthusiasts toward the many outdoor and recreational opportunities northwestern Montana has to offer.

Reliable, Economical Aircraft Storage Solutions

Ideal for storing and servicing planes and helicopters while protecting them from damage, pre-engineered metal hangars help aviation enthusiasts keep their valuable assets in prime condition, regardless of temperature, precipitation, or time of year.

These particular steel hangars have served pilots well for more than a decade, giving them a safe, reliable jumping-off point where they can store aircraft before venturing into the nearby backcountry. The historic Montana city of Kalispell bills itself the “Gateway to Glacier National Park,” and it is part of northwestern Montana’s Flathead County. The community, which is one of the largest in the region, sits about 17 miles from Columbia Falls and about the same distance from Whitefish.

Building Specifications

While both metal aircraft hangars feature heavy-duty steel construction, resulting in unsurpassed durability, they differ in size, with the first hangar standing 170’x200’x32’ in size and the second, 100’x100’x27’ in size. The first hangar can easily accommodate aircraft in a broad range of sizes, and it has a hardwearing steel roof with a 2:12 pitch overhead that protects stored planes and helicopters from the Montana elements.

The hanger boasts an attractive, Stone Beige exterior with a matching roof and Burnished Slate-colored trim, and distributed throughout the steel aviation building are (21) framed openings. Included are (14) 11’4” skylights, (2) 10’x10’ overhead framed openings, (4) 3070 walk door openings housing (4) 3070 walk doors, and (1) 130’x29’ stack doors that can easily accommodate larger aircraft.

The second and smaller steel hangar, meanwhile, stands 100’x100’x27’ in size once raised, and it, too, features a robust, reliable steel roof with a 2:12 pitch overhead. Ice Grey in color with a complementing Burnished Slate-colored roof with Roman Blue trim, the hangar offers ample street appeal, and it also features (2) framed openings; (1) 10’x10’ overhead framed opening and 75’x20’ opening enclosing (1) 75’x20’ bi-fold door.

Both metal hangars also feature several customizations made in adherence to local building code requirements and out of respect for the region’s variable climate patterns. Such accommodations include 90-mph wind speed ratings and 38.43-pound snow loads.
